Alfombras is the beautiful street carpets created during the Holy week celebration during the Easter in some Central American countries like Guatemala, Honduras and Semana Santa, Antigua. The creation of Alfombras begins on the last Sunday before Easter. The street are covered with a layer of leveled sand. Then the saw dust go through a screen to keep any rough pieces away and richly colored dyes are added to it. People in batches start creating beautiful alfombras by spreading it over the layer of sand adding various designs inspired by Mayan tradition, Christian religion and nature.
