Heather Lara is an England born artist who developed love, affection and appreciation for nature at an early age. Presently living with her husband and children in Temecula, California, she is working as a volunteer with the Animal Department at the Living Desert in Palm Desert. Heather Lara is a very talented artist. She uses scratchboard to create the beautiful animal portraits with finest detail. Even though she is not trained formally, the master pieces created by Lara are wonderful. The scratchboard is prepared on a special board coated with a thin layer of fine clay. It is then painted or airbrushed with ink and the picture is drawn by scratching away the ink with a sharp blade or tool. Several layers of diluted ink was are added during the scratching process for color pieces to build up the color and contrast. Her art pieces were exhibited at the Centro Cultural Fisherton.
